Sci-Fi Jim

Performing at
The Boozy Cow

About this event

Sci-Fi Jim brings his one-man musical journey to The Boozy Cow for an evening of live acoustic performance. This Fife-based multi-instrumentalist has been performing since the 1990s, drawing on an impressive range of styles spanning rock, folk, country, blues, jazz, indie and beyond. Armed with acoustic guitar, bass drum, tambourine and harmonica, Sci-Fi Jim delivers everything live with no backing tracks—what you hear is authentic, unplugged musicianship. Expect a repertoire that weaves together well-known classics with deeper cuts across multiple genres and decades. His versatile approach means there's something for everyone, whether you're in the mood for soulful blues standards, energetic rock and roll, introspective indie numbers or timeless folk favourites. Sci-Fi Jim's comfortable performing extended sets, so settle in for a memorable night of genuine live music. The Boozy Cow on Frederick Street offers the perfect intimate setting for this kind of stripped-back, heartfelt performance. Whether you're a longtime fan or discovering Sci-Fi Jim for the first time, this is your chance to experience a skilled musician doing what he does best—playing live, right in front of you.

About the Artist

An active musician since his teens, Sci-Fi Jim has performed both solo and in bands of various sizes, covering styles including rock, folk, country, blues, jazz, indie, rock and roll, alt-country and Americana. A versatile multi-instrumentalist (playing, among other things, guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, harmonica, mandolin, bouzouki and percussion), SFJ has been playing live shows since the 1990s and completed several session recordings for a number of artists. He is currently recording a series of solo covers albums, which you can hear samples from on SoundCloud (links below), Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music and other major platforms. (Note - these are often multi-instrumental tracks and so are a little different from the live performances, but they'll give you an idea of what SFJ is about!) For live solo shows, he mostly plays acoustic guitar (with octave bass emulator), bass drum, tambourine and harmonica. No backing tracks are used - everything you hear is live. Comfortable playing shows of up to 3 hours (with two breaks), his repertoire includes a range of well-known classics (including Dock of the Bay, Drift Away, Sit Down, Stand By Me, New England and (around Christmas) Fairytale of New York), along with several lesser-known but upbeat songs specially chosen and tailored to suit the event. His style is adaptable, from mellow afternoon jazz and blues through to end-of-the-night party songs, and he alters the set in real time to accommodate the type of audience he's playing to. With many years of experience, professional equipment and an immaculate reliability track record, Sci-Fi Jim is definitely worth any venue taking a chance on. --- SFJ is based in Anstruther, NE Fife, and is willing to travel anywhere in Scotland by negotiation. For longer distances, overnight accommodation may be required, but for the central belt same-day return travel is usually fine. Posters can be tailor-made and posted to venues in advance if needed. ---
