About the Artist

Dan Cooper is a multi-format DJ, music obsessive and self-confessed human jukebox from Gloucester, with over 30 years of experience making, playing and generally getting far too excited about music. Able to turn his hand to pretty much any genre and any audience, Dan has played for everyone from children’s parties and family celebrations to WW2 remembrance events, pubs, nightclubs, festivals and everything in between. He is friendly, approachable and, most importantly, knows how to read a room. Rather than simply turning up with a playlist and pressing play, Dan brings personality, enthusiasm and a fresh character to the standard local DJ schtick. For the past five years Dan has been Resident DJ at The Moon Under Water in Cheltenham, part of the popular Wetherspoons chain, playing three nights a week. He has also been closely involved in the venue’s Disco Spoons rebranding, helping turn the traditional image of Wetherspoons on its head by creating an early-evening nightclub experience aimed at students. His sets there cover Pop, Party, Dance, R&B and Singalong, proving that you don't necessarily need a traditional nightclub to get a room full of people dancing. Dan has also shared bills with and supported acts including The Orb, Mad Professor, Altern-8 and Sammy Virgi, and for the past two years has closed the outdoor stage at Cheltenham Jazz Festival. His DJing has taken him across a wide range of venues and events, from intimate local nights to major festivals. Closer to home, Dan hosts a regular pub quiz at Café René in Gloucester and has DJed for Propaganda Indie-Disco nights, as well as playing at most of the pubs, clubs and venues around Cheltenham and Gloucester at one point or another. He is particularly fondly remembered for his residency at 2PIGS, the legendary alternative club in Cheltenham, where he provided a considerably noisier soundtrack of Rock, Metal and Indie. His relationship with music extends beyond the DJ booth. Dan has presented radio shows for the University of Gloucestershire, NOODS Radio and Cutters Choice Radio, among others, and has spent years exploring music from the experimental and leftfield to the downright ridiculous. He is also an absolute weapon at a music pub quiz, possessing an alarming amount of completely useless musical trivia. A master tune blender, Dan makes full use of modern DJ technology, including the latest stem-based mixing tools, while keeping the fundamentals of good DJing firmly at the centre: selection, timing, flow and knowing what people want to hear next. His sets can move happily between decades and genres, from forgotten pop gems and guilty pleasures to house, techno, hip hop, R&B, indie, electronic music and outright oddities. Whatever the audience, he is interested in finding the right music for the room rather than imposing a particular style on it. After more than three decades immersed in music, Dan is pretty much convinced he was put on this earth to DJ. He is willing to travel wherever the booking takes him if the price is right, although he has a particular soft spot for pubs and nightclubs over private functions.
